WASHINGTON, D.C.- On Friday, September 28, House Republicans passed legislation (H.R. 6760) to permanently cap the State and Local Tax (SALT) Deduction at $10,000 for both individuals and joint filers. This severe limitation applies to state and local income, property, and sales taxes. According to the Joint Committee on Taxation, this legislation will increase the deficit by $631 billion over the next 10 years. Congressman Krishnamoorthi released the following statement:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed legislation to fund the departments of Labor, Health, and Human Services, and Education. This includes $1.9 billion for career, technical, and adult education programs authorized by the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act. This will ensure that all students have the opportunity to continue to develop their skills in their post-secondary education and succeed in in-demand careers.

As part of the appropriations package, efforts to address substance use disorder, including opioid and heroin abuse, will receive $6.7 billion split between the federal and state governments.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Thursday, the House passed the appropriations bill for Military Construction and Veteran Affairs programs for FY2019. Included in the funding package was $400 million specifically to fight opioid addiction among veterans. This follows the House-passed Krishnamoorthi amendment that was included in the National Defense Authorization Act which encouraged Department of Defense (DoD) to enact a plan to prevent and treat opioid use among DoD dependents.
