WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) introduced a congressional record entry to recognize the “Medical Debt Relief Initiative” in Cook County, Illinois, a program that has successfully abolished $281,338,840 of medical debt for Cook County residents. The initiative, spearheaded by Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, successfully reallocated $12 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to provide crucial relief to Cook County families.

WASHINGTON – Last night, Congressmen Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08) and John James (R-MI-10) introduced the bipartisan Opportunity to Compete Act to ensure that workers who are Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs) rather than a bachelor's degree receive fair consideration in hiring. While automation and other technical advances in hiring have made application screening easier for employers, they have also contributed significantly to the trend of requiring degrees for jobs that previously did not require them.

WASHINGTON – In recognition of his “exemplary commitment to advancing the interests of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities in Congress,” the Asian American Unity Coalition (AAUC) recently honored Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi with the Dalip Singh Saund Award for Political Leadership. Congressman Saund was the first Sikh, Indian American, and Asian American elected to the United States Congress.

“I’m horrified by the images coming out of Israel after unprovoked attacks by Iran-backed Hamas terrorists. The United States unequivocally stands with the people of Israel against this gruesome terror attack, and strongly supports its right to defend itself.”
