WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, public health officials in Illinois confirmed the first human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus. The individual affected is the spouse of the first confirmed travel-related case in Illinois. Both individuals are in stable condition and are receiving treatment in isolation at AMITA Health St. Alexius Medical Center Hoffman Estates in Illinois 8th district.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the Supreme Court lifted a nationwide injunction blocking the Trump Administration's "public charge" rule, which would essentially create a wealth test for individuals looking to obtain a green card. As a result, the Trump Administration will now be permitted to reinterpret a provision of federal immigration law to deny immigrants green cards if they are expected to use government assistance programs, or become a "public charge."

CHICAGO, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) held a press conference today to announce the introduction of the Providing Resources to End the Vaping Epidemic Now for Teenagers (PREVENT) Act, a bipartisan and bicameral bill with Congressman Peter King (R-NY) that will create youth vaping prevention programs in schools and provide resources to help teachers and administrators combat skyrocketing youth e-cigarette use.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-8), together with U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR), and Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) recently introduced the Protecting Students from Worthless Degrees Act of 2019 in both the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. This legislation would close a loophole that allows for-profit colleges to take federal financial aid dollars for students to attend or enroll in unaccredited degree programs that often leave students deep in debt and unable to work in their chosen field.

SCHAUMBURG, IL — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi today hailed the unanimous Senate passage of his bill, H.R.1844, to rename the Elgin Post office in honor of Corporal Alex Martinez, an Elgin native and the only individual from the city to lose his life in combat since the terror attack on September 11, 2001. This important bill passed the Senate this week following the House's unanimous passage of the bill in July and Senator Dick Durbin's advocacy in support of the measure.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) reintroduced The Investing in American Workers Act, legislation that would establish a 20% tax credit for small and mid-sized businesses that invest in workforce training for their employees. Qualifying investments include apprenticeship programs in new and emerging industries, programs conducted by career and technical education schools, community colleges, labor organizations, and industry partnerships.
