WASHINGTON – On Monday, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi’s bill to rename the St. Charles East Side Station Post Office as the “Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office” passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 390 to 0. Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s floor speech in support of his legislation can be viewed here and the bill will now proceed to the Senate.

“I am grateful that my colleagues from both parties came together to support my legislation to recognize the sacrifices of the brave men and women who served our nation in Vietnam by renaming the St. Charles East Side Station Post Office as the Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office,” said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. “I hope the Senate will soon approve this legislation so the President may sign it into law and members of our community visiting the post office in the years to come will be reminded of the sacrifices of the American veterans who served in Vietnam.”

This year, on March 29th, National Vietnam War Veterans Day, Congressman Krishnamoorthi introduced this bill with strong support from veterans groups and local leaders across the district. The Congressman’s efforts received praise from the Department of Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Bobby Welch, the Coalition of Veterans Organizations Board of Directors, St. Charles Mayor Lora Vitek, and others.
