US House Passes Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s Bipartisan Amendment to Strengthen the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Recruitment and Training Programs
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last night, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's bipartisan amendment passed as part of H.R. 8, The Water Resources Development Act of 2018, to strengthen the Army Corps of Engineers workforce. This amendment improves the capacity and preparedness of the Army Corps of Engineers workforce by analyzing challenges related to recruitment, retention, diversity, and on-the-job training.
"Our ability to build robust infrastructure, to responsibly develop our natural resources, and to implement environmentally conscious conservation projects is directly linked to the strength of the Army Corps of Engineers workforce," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "At a time when our national skills gap is at a record level of 6.7 million unfilled jobs, we should be doing everything we can to help the Army Corps of Engineers recruit, hire, and retain qualified staff to carry out duties that impact environmental sustainability and national security. I applaud my colleagues from both sides of the aisle for supporting this amendment and for passing a bipartisan reauthorization of the Water Resources Development Act."
