Statement from Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of the Oversight Committee on FBI Investigation of Judge Kavanaugh

September 29, 2018

"I am pleased that Senator Flake understood the importance of conducting a thorough and impartial investigation into the grave allegations surrounding Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Now it is time for the President and the FBI to follow through with a thorough investigation. In her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, Dr. Ford named Mark Judge directly as a witness to the alleged sexual assault, and this investigation would be grossly incomplete without Mr. Judge's full and unconditional cooperation. While there are preliminary indications that he may cooperate, we do not know the extent of this cooperation. In the absence of full cooperation, I urge the FBI and Senate investigators to use every tool at their disposal to secure the complete testimony of Mr. Judge as well as any other witness or person with knowledge of the incidents in question. While this investigation should be completed as soon as possible, I am adamantly opposed to an artificial one-week deadline on this investigation. In addition, I caution anyone from impeding this investigation or obstructing justice in any way.

As a member of the House Oversight Committee, and the Ranking Member of one of its subcommittees, I would remind the President, the Senate, and Mr. Judge that should Democrats control Congress next year, we will have the ability to subpoena testimony and documents from Mr. Judge and any other potential witnesses. It will be better for our entire nation if the full facts are made available prior to a Senate vote on a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court."
