Resolution to Confirm Election Will be Held on November 3rd Passes Fifty Co-Sponsors
SCHAUMBURG, IL – Today, the resolution introduced by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL-08) to ensure the election is held on November 3rd, 2020 surpassed fifty co-sponsors. Below is a statement from Congressman Krishnamoorthi on the growing support for passage of this resolution:
"Congress must hold President Trump accountable for his recent statements in support of moving the election and affirm the authority of the legislative branch by passing this resolution. Both Republicans and Democrats must put partisan politics aside to protect the health of our democratic institutions. Even in times of unrest, particularly in uncertain times, it is critical that democracy move forward. Presidential elections have been held on this date, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, during economic depressions, world war, and civil unrest. Never in the 43 elections since 1845 has the date been moved. When individuals in positions of power seek to undermine public faith in the democratic process, it is imperative that Congress protects our democratic institutions, and safeguards against abuses of power."
