ICYMI: Congressman Krishnamoorthi Holds Second Listening Session On Opioid With Local Experts

May 31, 2019

Wheaton, IL – Yesterday, Congressman Krishnamoorthi joined local public health officials and other leaders across the community to discuss what can be done to combat the opioid epidemic. The session focused on opioid abuse and overdose prevention from a public health perspective and identified specific problems, prevention strategies, needed resources and approaches that the federal government can take. Congressman Krishnamoorthi was joined on the panel by Dr. Darlene Ruscitti, Superintendent of the DuPage Regional Office of Education, Christopher Hoff and Mila Tsagalis of the DuPage County Health Department, Dr. Ankur Dave, MD who serves as Medical Director of Pain Management at AMITA Health, Brad Gerke who is the Director of Operations at Banyan Treatment Center, and Jenny Burke, the Senior Director of Advocacy, National Safety Council.

"The opioid epidemic has touched nearly every community across our country and while federal efforts to combat it are absolutely necessary, they'll only be effective if we work with the people on the frontlines," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi after the event. "I am glad that leaders across our community came together to discuss their efforts and the way federal, state, and local authorities can work together to prevent opioid-related deaths, expand treatment, and prevent people from falling prey to addiction to begin with."
