Press Release
Krishnamoorthi also calls for Oversight Committee hearings on FBI Director Comey’s Firing

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of the House Oversight Committee today called upon the committee to issue a subpoena to the White House for all documents relating to the investigation of General Michael Flynn and any Russian interference into America’s democratic government and elections.

Krishnamoorthi made the demand to avoid the possibility of the Trump Administration destroying such evidence. Given the shocking and unprecedented circumstances surrounding FBI Director Comey’s firing, Congressman Krishnamoorthi has also called on the Oversight Committee to hold immediate hearings to investigate the termination of the FBI Director while the law enforcement agency continues to conduct its counter-intelligence operations involving contacts between President Trump’s known associates and agents of the Kremlin.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s full statement follows:

“President Trump has taken the nearly unprecedented action of firing FBI Director James Comey while the FBI is in the midst of an ongoing counter-intelligence investigation of the President’s 2016 campaign and any ties to Russian agents.

As a member of the House Oversight Committee, I’m calling for our committee to immediately subpoena from the White House all documents regarding the investigation of General Michael Flynn and his foreign contacts.

In light of the President’s sudden, suspicious firing of Director Comey, combined with the White House’s refusal to provide investigators with documents relating to General Flynn’s security clearance, the Oversight Committee must safeguard this evidence from any potential loss, tampering, or destruction.

Given the alarming circumstances of Director Comey’s firing, the Oversight Committee has a responsibility to hold hearings on this matter and to determine any additional motivations behind the decision, based on the investigations into Russian interference, potential collusion, or otherwise.

The American public deserves answers and in this case, it is the responsibility of the Oversight Committee and other investigating entities to bring the facts to light.”
