House Passes National Defense Authorization With Rep. Krishnamoorthi’s Amendment Requiring Pentagon To Report On Efforts To Meet Military’s Prescription Supply Needs And How They Can Be Emulated In Civilian Markets
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the US House of Representatives passed an amendment introduced by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) to require the Secretary of Defense to provide a report to Congress on the effectiveness of readiness contracts in meeting the military's prescription drug supply needs and how the contractual approach can be a model for responding to drug shortages in the civilian health care market. Congressman Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response:
"As our country continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent health care crises left in its wake, the importance of addressing medical supply shortages has only grown in importance. We need to strengthen our systems for meeting our country's prescription drug supply needs and that's why I'm glad the House included my amendment to require the Secretary of Defense to provide a report to Congress on the effectiveness of the Pentagon's readiness contract procurement system and how that model can best be adapted to meet the needs of the civilian market."
