House Approves 6-Year Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization With Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s Amendment To Study Economic Impacts of Aircraft Noise
WASHINGTON, DC – Today the House passed HR 4, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2018, which included Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's bipartisan amendment requiring the FAA to study the economic impacts of aircraft noise on communities and businesses located near major airports. The Krishnamoorthi Amendment, which was passed unanimously by the House, expands FAA Noise Studies to include effects on businesses when they are subject to excessive noise throughout the work day. This will include, but is not limited to, employee productivity and retention, workplace morale and satisfaction, and other data.
"I'm pleased the House unanimously passed my amendment this week, and I hope the Senate will move quickly to send this bill to the President's desk." said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "Communities across my district and the Chicago region know all too well how disruptive excessive aircraft noise is to their lives and businesses. My amendment will help policy makers grasp the full effect of airport noise and guarantee that future noise mitigation plans use the most up-to-date information on the full harm of excessive aircraft noise. O'Hare International Airport is the economic hub of our region, and we need to make sure future growth does not harm nearby families and businesses."
