In Hearing With Top Intelligence Officials, Congressman Krishnamoorthi Highlights Importance Of Supporting Ukraine As Kyiv Faces Supply Shortage And Sending A Message To Other Adversaries Abroad
WASHINGTON – During an Intelligence Committee hearing with top American intelligence officials, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi touched on President Vladimir Putin's mental state and domestic unpopularity, the impact of a Russian oil ban, the reaction of the People's Republic of China to the consequences faced by Russia, and the importance of planning American support for a Ukrainian insurgency, while revealing that the city of Kyiv would face serious food and water shortages within two weeks if cut off by Russian forces. The Congressman highlighted the need to not only provide immediate support to Ukrainian forces but also prepare plans to assist a Ukrainian insurgency, which his bipartisan Supplying Ukraine with Provisions to Protect against Ongoing Russian Threats (SUPPORT) Act would do.
"As fighting continues across Ukraine, the imperative to provide American military and humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people could not be stronger, especially as we learned earlier today that Kyiv would face severe food and water shortages within two weeks of being cut off by Russian forces," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "It is imperative that we immediately approve and provide support to Ukraine, while preparing for an insurgency or any other necessary additional steps. As today's hearing reminded us in stark terms, the fight to preserve Ukraine's independence is of enormous consequence for not only the freedom of the Ukrainian people but for that of millions of people across the world threatened by the military ambitions of other regimes. We must meet that challenge and the needs of the Ukrainian people."
