Congressmen Krishnamoorthi and Beyer Call On The Office Of The Special Counsel To Investigate Potential Hatch Act Violations At The RNC
WASHINGTON, DC – On Wednesday, Congressmen Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) and Don Beyer (VA-08) wrote to Special Counsel Henry Kerner, calling upon the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) to investigate the apparent Hatch Act violations committed by members of the Trump Administration during the RNC, most notably the pardon and citizenship ceremony included in the nationally-televised event.
“The Hatch Act explicitly prohibits federal employees from participating in partisan political activity in an official capacity, barring them from engaging in any activity directed toward the success or failure of any political party or candidate,” the members wrote. “The inclusion of Acting Secretary Wolf and other federal employees in an official capacity in the proceedings of the Republican National Convention, which explicitly advocates for the success of a political party, appears to have violated the Hatch Act, and OSC should immediately commence an investigation and take appropriate disciplinary action against those involved and responsible.”
The representatives requested an update on the Special Counsel’s actions to investigate potential Hatch Act violations by September 9th.
