Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Votes In Favor Of The Bipartisan Tax Relief For American Families And Workers Act, Expanding Child Tax Credit to 19,000 Kids In Illinois’ Eighth Congressional District

January 31, 2024

WASHINGTON – Tonight, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi voted in favor of the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act, which will expand the Child Tax Credit (CTC) for almost 16 million American children, including roughly 587,000 Illinois residents and 19,000 children in Illinois’ Eighth Congressional District. The expansion of the CTC lifted 2.1 million American children out of poverty following the passage of the American Rescue Plan in 2021, and this legislation would lift half a million children from poverty within the next year.

“No child should live in poverty, and I was proud to join a majority of my colleagues from both parties in voting to pass this expansion of the Child Tax Credit to significantly reduce child poverty in America,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. “Through this measure, we are lifting more than half a million children out of poverty, helping 16 million more, and expanding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit to put a roof over the heads of 200,000 American families. At the same time, this legislation eliminates red tape for small businesses, encourages domestic research investment, and does so without adding a nickel to the deficit. The American people sent us to Washington to make their lives better, and that is exactly what the bipartisan Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act does.”

In addition to expanding the CTC, the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act also invests billions of dollars to increase the availability of low-income housing by expanding the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, cuts unnecessary red tape for small businesses, and helps families and communities recover from natural disasters and accidents.
