Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Touts $25 Million Infrastructure Grant for Kane County to Improve Rail and Road Safety

January 29, 2024

SCHAUMBURG – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi was proud to confirm Kane County was awarded a $25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highways Project program, also known as the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) program, to improve the functionality of the intersection between Randall Road and Hopps Road and construct a new bridge on Randall Road over the existing Canadian National (CN) railroad in Elgin. The realignment of Hopps Road will address and improve the hazardous junction between the two roads and increase safety for both cars and pedestrians by reducing the possibility of crashes and accidents. The grade separation project over the CN railway will reduce traffic on Randall Road and allow vehicles and trains to run uninterrupted at all times during the day. Safety will also be improved by eliminating cars stopping on the tracks and allowing emergency vehicles to go over the railroad without potentially dangerous delays.

“By funding improvements to the intersection of Randall and Hopps Roads, as well as the construction of a bridge over the Canadian National railroad, this federal grant will provide greater safety to the Kane County community while reducing noise and traffic delays,” said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. “I was proud to vote to expand the Infrastructure for Rebuilding America grant program, which provided this funding, and look forward to seeing the benefits this grant will bring to our community.”

The INFRA program, which makes projects like these possible, saw its funding levels increase by more than 50 percent following the passage of the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Congressman Krishnamoorthi was proud to support the landmark bipartisan legislation.
