Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Tours Continued Progress of Elgin O’Hare Western Access Project, Receives Updates from Tollway Leaders

November 25, 2024

BENSENVILLE, IL – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) joined with Illinois Tollway Executive Director Cassaundra Rouse, Illinois Tollway Board Chairman Arnie Rivera, and local and state leaders in touring recent progress on the Elgin O’Hare Western Access (EOWA) project. The project, slated to be completed in 2027, will connect the Interstate-90 (Jane Addams Memorial Tollway) and Interstate-294 (Tri-State Tollway), significantly cutting travel time between the west side of Chicago O’Hare International Airport and U.S. Route 20 (Lake Street). The new Interstate-490 will spur economic development by increasing accessibility to the surrounding western areas of the airport.

“Like so many people who live in communities west of Chicago O’Hare, I know how frustrating the travel to and from the airport can be,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. “The Elgin O’Hare Western Access project will not only address traffic and travel time but also boost economic development for small and local businesses in communities around the airport. With 65,000 new, good-paying jobs on the way to the region by 2040, it’s no wonder this critical project has been deemed regionally and nationally significant by the administration. I’m grateful to all those with the Illinois Tollway who have worked with elected officials at every level to continue this project, and I look forward to its completion and the economic and commuter benefits it will bring.”

The EOWA project will consist of 17 miles of new road and 15 new or improved interchanges that will connect one of the country’s busiest airports in terms of air travel and commercial goods with local communities west of the airport. By increasing accessibility to Chicago O’Hare, strains on global supply chains will be lessened and the regional and American economies will be strengthened.
