Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi: “There Must Be A Grace Period For All Taxpayers Whose Filings Were Disrupted By The IRS Outage”

April 17, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi today issued the following statement in response to the news that IRS electronic filing system crashed earlier today:

"In the wake of the technical failures of the IRS' direct payment system today, there must be a grace period for all taxpayers whose filings were disrupted by the IRS outrage. The IRS should formally issue an extension for all those impacted by these technical issues until the system is fully operational. Earlier today, our committee and I questioned Acting IRS Commissioner David J. Kautter on the technical and organizational issues that must be addressed in his agency. Those efforts are necessary, but they will take time, and taxpayers must not be penalized in the meanwhile for the failure of IRS systems."
