Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi's Statement on the Terrorist Attack in Manhattan

October 31, 2017

"Hundreds gathered to find out what had happened, how many had been hurt, and how they could help. That desire to help, to take care of one another, is at the very heart of our character as a people and no act of terror will ever change that.”

Washington, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response to the terrorist attack in lower Manhattan:

"My heart goes out to the victims of today's terror attack in New York City and their families. This cowardly act of terror will be fought with the strength and resolve that New Yorkers are famous for. While the full details of the attacker will emerge in the coming days, I have no doubt that we will bring all those responsible to justice.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the police and first responders who prevented greater casualties in lower Manhattan and tended to the injured. As we recognize their heroism, we should also remember the character displayed by so many others at the scene. Hundreds gathered to find out what had happened, how many had been hurt, and how they could help. That desire to help, to take care of one another, is at the very heart of our character as a people and no act of terror will ever change that."
