Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Speaks Out Against Weakening Of Civil Rights Protections Under Attorney General Sessions’ Religious Freedom Guidelines
SCHAUMBURG, IL – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois released the following statement in response to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ new religious freedom guidelines which will negatively impact women, the LQBTQ community, and millions of other Americans:
“Under the auspices of religious liberty, the Department of Justice’s new guidance would sanction a broad license to discriminate against LGBTQ people, women, and other minorities, all at the taxpayers’ expense. The DOJ should be protecting vulnerable populations, not enabling discrimination against them.
Millions of Americans today are asking ‘Will the Department of Justice protect my civil rights?’ The only acceptable answer should be an unequivocal ‘Yes.’ I will continue to fight to protect the rights of all Americans no matter where they come from, how they worship, or whom they love.”
