Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi’s Statement on the Attack on Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue

October 27, 2018

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response to the attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh's Squirrel Hill neighborhood:

"I'm shocked and outraged by the brutal act of domestic terror committed earlier today against the Tree of Life Synagogue, the city of Pittsburgh, and our entire nation. My thoughts and prayers are with all those touched by this tragedy, the victims and their loved ones, the police officers who interceded, and the millions of others across our country coming to terms with this act of hate, which has already left eight people dead and more wounded.

President George Washington wrote to the Hebrew Congregations of Newport, Rhode Island that the United States is a nation which gives ‘to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance.' Over two hundred and twenty-five years later, even on days like today, that commitment to acceptance and diversity remains the true nature of our nation."
