Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Responds To Letter From Trump Transition Team On Its Emails In The Possession Of Special Counsel Mueller
SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of the House Oversight Committee released the following statement in response to a letter from President Trump’s transition team to the Oversight Committee which argues that the General Services Administration should have refused to comply with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s formal requests to produce documents and communications from the Trump Transition Team:
“Our Committee has direct jurisdiction over the Presidential Transition Act, and there’s nothing in the act that supports withholding documents from a criminal investigation. As a former Special Assistant Attorney General in Illinois’ anti-corruption unit, I can’t imagine any situation where our office would abandon legally-obtained documents to the subject of an investigation.
The President and his attorneys have repeatedly claimed an interest in helping Mueller’s investigation. The President’s transition team trying to withhold documents relevant to a criminal investigation is an odd way of cooperating.”
