Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Receives Award from House of Restoration

October 25, 2019

SCHAUMBURG, IL – This week, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) received an award from House of Restoration, a nonprofit dedicated to serving those who are homeless in the city of Elgin and surrounding areas.

"House of Restoration is a remarkable organization that has worked long and hard to fight homelessness, poverty, and hunger in our community," said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. "Their work to help the homeless population in Elgin during the ‘polar vortex' earlier this year was truly life-saving, and I am humbled and honored by their kind recognition. America is a land of great abundance and no one in this country should ever be without a safe place to call home. With organizations working on the front lines like House of Restoration we as a country come ever closer to building a future free from homelessness."

On any typical night, over 550,000 Americans will experience homelessness. Another 1.4 million will spend some time in a shelter in a given year. Founded by pastors Lucy and Pedro Gomez, House of Restoration provides a safe warm space for the homeless in Elgin when the temperature outside drops below 15 degrees. Congressman Krishnamoorthi is a co-lead of the Fostering Success in Higher Education Act (HR 2966) with Rep. Danny Davis of Illinois, legislation that establishes a grant program to help youth who are homeless or living in foster homes apply to college.
