Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Presents Boys & Girls Club of Elgin with $1 Million in Federal Funding He Secured to Help Teens and At-Risk Youth

ELGIN, IL – On Monday, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) awarded the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin (BGCE) with $1 million in federal community project funding he secured for the organization to make improvements to its Elgin Clubhouse. The improvements, which include greater safety and security features such as additional and updated security cameras and security doors with buzzers, will provide teens and at-risk youth with a safe and welcoming space. The Elgin Clubhouse will also establish sensory rooms and elements, including suitable lighting and sound-dampening floors and ceiling tiles that will allow the BGCE to better serve those in need.
“The Boys & Girls Club of Elgin is an essential community institution for the young people of Elgin, which is why it’s so important it has the resources necessary to continue to play a pivotal role in Elgin youths’ lives,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. “Thanks to $1 million in federal funding I secured for clubhouse additions and upgrades, I look forward to seeing the Boys & Girls Club of Elgin continue to be a staple of the community for years to come.”
The project funding will also be used to make more general improvements to the Elgin Clubhouse that will enable the BGCE to better assist the youth and families in the community. In addition to the security improvements, the clubhouse will also be upgrading its broadband technologies to help those who do not have access to high-quality internet at home, enhancing its Career and Workforce Development Center to provide greater opportunities for students and teens, and expanding programming in leadership and mental health areas.
