Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Opposes Passage of House Republican Middle-Class Tax Increase

November 16, 2017

"My constituents in Illinois’ 8th Congressional District deserve responsible tax reform that strengthens the middle class and raises wages for working families. This bill does neither.”

Washington, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi released the following statement on the passage of the House Republican tax plan earlier today.

"Today I voted against the House Republican ticking tax bomb, the so-called Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This irresponsible bill would raise taxes on 38 million middle-class Americans and explode the deficit by $1.5 trillion. In my district in Illinois, the average family will see an $1,100 tax increase within 5 years. Eliminating the deduction for state and local income taxes will result in double-taxation for hard-working Illinoisans and only serve to increase our state's budget troubles.

My constituents in Illinois' 8th Congressional District deserve responsible tax reform that strengthens the middle class and raises wages for working families. This bill does neither."
