Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Opposes Partisan Continuing Resolution
WASHINGTON – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party, issued the following statement on the partisan continuing resolution put forth tonight:
“I oppose the new continuing resolution (CR) because it trades a clean CR for a dirty one. The dirty CR throws away the bipartisan compromises agreed to on the previous legislation while increasing the debt limit for another Trump tax giveaway to special interests at the expense of working families. This dirty CR cherry-picks winners and losers by embracing the priorities of special interests and abandoning key elements they oppose. It removes bipartisan provisions to reduce prescription drug prices by cracking down on the abuses of pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and it slashes critical funding for opioid abuse prevention and treatment, the anti-hunger efforts of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), brain injury prevention initiatives, and childhood cancer research.
The dirty CR also fails to prepare our nation to meet the threats posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as it removes previously included restrictions on American outbound investment into the People’s Republic of China – including the COINS Act which was based on my bipartisan work on the Select Committee on the CCP. The new partisan plan also glaringly omits other measures to address the economic, national security, and human rights challenges we face from the CCP. I urge my colleagues to vote against this measure.”
