Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi on the Nunes Memo: The Trump Administration Is Trying to Use Intelligence Committee Republicans to Discredit the Mueller Investigation
SCHAUMBURG, IL — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response to the release of the so-called “Nunes Memo”:
“The Nunes Memo is a work of selectively-edited political propaganda which was coordinated with the White House and specifically designed to undercut investigations into the activities of the President, his administration and his campaign. The decision to release this massively deceptive document without proper context, vetting, or the Intelligence Committee’s Minority Memo which directly addresses its misrepresentations, has been criticized by the FBI, the Department of Justice and leading Republicans including Senators John McCain, Jon Thune, and Jeff Flake.
The Nunes Memo specifically focuses on the most recent warrants for surveillance of Carter Page, who has reportedly been under watch for his potentially illicit relationship with the Russian government since 2013, years before his involvement with the Trump campaign. Yet this document in no way questions those facts. The Nunes memo was wholly designed to attack chief institutions of the American justice system for the specific purposes of shielding a President of the United States from an ongoing investigation.
The White House, the Republicans of the House Intelligence Committee, and their allies have proven themselves willing to sacrifice the credibility and independence of the Department of Justice to protect President Trump from the law. Justice may be blind to these efforts; the American people must not be.”
