Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi on EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt: “It’s Hard To Believe That He Still Has His Job”

April 16, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi today issued the following statement in response to the Government Accountability Office's finding that EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt illegally spent $43,000 in taxpayer money on a soundproof phone booth for his office:

"In light of new reports of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt illegally using $43,000 in taxpayer money to buy a soundproof telephone booth for his office, it's hard to believe that he still has his job. This new revelation adds to a laundry list of incidents in which Pruitt has tested ethics rules and misused taxpayer dollars for outrageous reasons. From his lobbyist give-away of a condo lease to completely unjustified first-class flights to employing an unprecedented and appallingly expensive around-the-clock security detail, Pruitt's actions present a clear pattern of reckless, extravagant, and unethical behavior at the expense of the public. Administrator Pruitt illegally billed taxpayers for a soundproof phone booth that belongs only in an episode of the old sitcom ‘Get Smart' instead of in a taxpayer-funded government office. One way or another, it's time for Pruitt to get out."
