Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Criticizes Republican Tax Plan For Not Putting Working Families and Small Businesses First

November 2, 2017

Washington, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response to the House Republican tax plan:

"This tax plan will explode the deficit by $1.5 trillion without giving working families and small businesses the relief they need. We need tax reform, but this plan would eliminate the SALT deduction for most local sales and income taxes, thus increasing taxes on working families and the middle class.

I'm also particularly troubled by the provisions eliminating the tax deductions for employer-provided childcare and the personal exemption, which currently allows a working family of four to deduct up to $16,000 per year. This tax plan is poorly designed legislation that borrows trillions from the future, increases taxes on hardworking Americans, and harms our economy."
