Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi: Congress Must Fully Investigate White House Effort To Secretly Transfer Nuclear Technology To Saudi Arabia

February 19, 2019

Reported Plan Could Have Violated Atomic Energy Act Of 1954 While Enriching Members Of President Trump’s Family And Inner circle

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response to the Oversight Committee's interim report "Whistleblowers Raise Grave Concerns with Trump Administration's Efforts to Transfer Sensitive Nuclear Technology to Saudi Arabia":

"It is imperative that Congress gets to the bottom of the White House's effort to secretly transfer nuclear technology to Saudi Arabia as part of a larger agreement with the potential to violate the Atomic Energy Act while enriching members of President Trump's family and inner circle. This rush to provide Saudi Arabia with US nuclear secrets, which began under Michael Flynn during the Presidential Transition and may continue to this day, demands answers as Jared Kushner, who could personally profit from such an agreement, is about to leave for Riyadh next week.

The combination of conflicts of interest in this matter, including those of Senior Advisor Kushner, former National Security Advisor Flynn, and Inauguration Chair Tom Barrack raise enormous ethical questions while the potential transfer of nuclear secrets to a regime that recently murdered Jamal Khashoggi, a journalist and Saudi subject, presents legal and foreign policy questions of the highest order. Congress must investigate this effort an employ its powers to review and potentially block any such agreement."
