Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Condemns President Trump’s Firing of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee Chairman

April 7, 2020

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) issued the following statement regarding the Trump Administration's decision to remove Glenn Fine as the head of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee:

"In the midst of a failing roll out by the Small Business Administration to provide loans funded through the CARES Act to small businesses nationwide, President Trump has decided to remove the head of the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "The Administration is letting down millions of small businesses across the country, and now President Trump wants to stop conducting oversight of $2 trillion in federal funding. As a former small business owner now serving in Congress, I will not let this stand and urge my colleagues to push for even stronger Congressional oversight now that the committee of agency Inspector Generals has been upended.

The first priority must be to get money to small businesses doing everything they can to keep Americans employed. We have been receiving reports of certain banks halting the processing of loan applications from small businesses. Now is not the time to turn a blind eye on how we administer the largest government program in our history. We cannot afford to have the federal government's response end up being a handout to connected companies and banks instead of Main Street businesses that are the backbone of our economy."
