Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Condemns Military Coup In Myanmar, Calls For Release of Civilian Leaders

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement:

"I unequivocally condemn the actions of Myanmar's military as they staged a coup and detained civilian officials due to unsubstantiated claims on fraud in their election. It is imperative Myanmar's military release those civilian leaders who have been detained, restore communications access to the public, and order all troops engaged in this attempted takeover to stand down. I have always advocated for peace and democracy in the South Asian region, for the sake of both regional and American security, and I hope this coup is swiftly reversed so Myanmar can undertake progress toward democracy."
