January 29, 2019

Legislation pushes the Department of Labor to report on the long-term workforce impacts of artificial intelligence (AI)

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi spearheaded the introduction of the AI Jobs Act of 2019 with representatives Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Rep. Yvette Clarke (NY-09), Rep. Mike Gallagher (WI-08), Rep. Debbie Dingell (MI-12), Rep. Ralph Norman (SC-05), Rep. Mark Takano (CA-41), Rep. Paul Mitchell (MI-10), and Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17). Today's legislation is a reintroduction of Krishnamoorthi's 2018 bill, which directs the Department of Labor, working with businesses and research institutions, to report the challenges and opportunities that face the workforce impacts of artificial intelligence. The new legislation, introduced yesterday, has the support of a bipartisan coalition in Congress, employers, and workforce advocates.

"I am proud to again spearhead this effort and bring my colleagues together from both sides of aisle in introducing legislation which will help bolster our economy by preparing American workers for the emerging job opportunities created by AI," said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. "Today's legislation will address the challenges and opportunities that artificial intelligence presents for a range of industries, from manufacturing to transportation."
