Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Celebrates the Renaming of the St. Charles East Side Station Post Office as the Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office as a Result of His Legislation

ST. CHARLES, IL – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) celebrated the official renaming of the St. Charles East Side Station Post Office as the Veterans of the Vietnam War Memorial Post Office as a result of his legislation. The bill, introduced by Congressman Krishnamoorthi in March 2023, was passed unanimously by the House and Senate last fall and spring, respectively, and signed into law by President Joe Biden in May. Congressman Krishnamoorthi was joined by St. Charles Mayor Lora Vitek, United States Postal Service (USPS) Illinois 1 Acting District Manager Jeff Drake, and representatives from the Army, Navy, and Air Force branches of the American Legion at the renaming ceremony.
“From those who served our nation in uniform to the friends and family who welcomed them home, millions of Americans were directly touched by the Vietnam War, and its effects are still felt throughout our country today,” Congressman Krishnamoorthi said. “It is my sincere hope that by renaming this post office in honor of the brave men and women who served our nation in the war, members of the community will be reminded of our veterans’ sacrifices every time they visit it. America can never fully repay the debt of gratitude we owe these heroes, but by naming this post office for these veterans, our communities will honor their service forever.”
Approximately 58,000 Americans died during the Vietnam War, including almost 3,000 Illinoisans. The bill to honor those who lost their lives in service to the nation was supported by a number of local leaders and veterans groups from across Illinois’ Eighth Congressional District, such as Department of Illinois Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander Bobby Welch, the Coalition of Veterans Organizations Board of Directors, St. Charles Mayor Lora Vitek, and others.
