Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Calls On USDA To Allow Families Using WIC To Purchase Baby Formula Online Now
SCHAUMBURG – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi called on the USDA to provide more opportunities for WIC participants to purchase infant formula through retailers online, in addition to brick-and-mortar stores:
"As our nation works to end the infant formula shortage, it is essential that we provide every available opportunity for families to safely purchase the infant formula they need and that means allowing WIC participants to purchase formula through online retailers. While the USDA's Food and Nutrition Services is already working to launch an online ordering and transaction program that would overcome current regulatory barriers, we need to provide American families every available avenue for feeding their infants right now, and that means expediting online and telephonic options to be able to purchase formula online at this time. For decades, WIC has served as a tool for providing crucial nutrition to some of our most vulnerable Americans, and this crisis clarifies the need to bring it fully into the 21st century."
