Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi Calls On All UN Member States To Vote In Favor Of Resolution Condemning Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
WASHINGTON – Today Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, a member of the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, urged all United Nations Member states to vote in favor of the resolution before the General Assembly this week condemning Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, while demanding it end the fighting and withdraw its troops. This General Assembly resolution follows a similar U.N. Security Council measure last week, which Russia vetoed while the People's Republic of China, the United Arab Emirates, and India abstained from the vote.
"As the General Assembly meets this week in preparation for its vote on the resolution condemning Russia's baseless and illegal invasion of Ukraine, I urge every United Nations member state to support this measure and send the clear message that Russia's conduct, and such conduct by any other nation, will not be tolerated," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "The resolution before the General Assembly this week follows in the footsteps of last week's proposal, which met so ignominious an end before the Security Council. This week's vote is a clear referendum over whether militaristic expansion will be allowed to triumph over the rule of law. The failure of any democracy to take a firm stance against Russia's aggression by supporting this week's resolution only encourages the imperial ambitions of the world's other autocratic regimes, including that of the People's Republic of China."
