Congressman Krishnamoorthi Visits Motorola Solutions Facility, Discusses Importance of American Manufacturing, Role of AI in Public Safety

January 8, 2024

ELGIN, IL – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) toured a Motorola Solutions facility in Elgin, Illinois that produces critical communications devices and networks that simplify workflows and improve human decision-making with greater precision and accuracy.

During the tour, Congressman Krishnamoorthi met with Dr. Mahesh Saptharishi, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Motorola Solutions. Congressman Krishnamoorthi and Dr. Saptharishi took a guided tour of the manufacturing floor at Motorola Solutions, and finished with a visit to Motorola’s Experience Center, where Congressman Krishnamoorthi observed a demonstration of the command center technology, learning about the role of analytics and AI in turning data into tangible assistance in the public safety domain. As the lead Democrat and Ranking Member of the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Ranking Member Krishnamoorthi recently brokered a landmark, bipartisan agreement of 150 policy recommendations to reset the economic and technology competition with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to benefit American companies, workers, and consumers, including through making critical commitments to American manufacturing, AI research, and general technological development.

“I want to thank Dr. Saptharishi and his team at Motorola Solutions for hosting today’s conversations on the rapid advancements of artificial intelligence, and how such technology, if handled responsibly, can be used to accelerate analysis, protect communities, and increase innovation at all levels. As my committee recently reaffirmed in our report on the strategic competition between the U.S. and the Chinese Communist Party, we must ensure that the United States remains the world’s leader in AI and that our adversaries cannot leverage our advances in AI, such as those we discussed today, to undermine our national security or economic competitiveness. Fundamentally, that means helping to set global standards governing artificial intelligence developments, investing in research into them, and working effectively with our business community to safely harness their full potential.”

The tour comes as part of a series of events held today by Congressman Krishnamoorthi with elected officials and businesses focusing on efforts to win the economic and technological competition with the People’s Republic of China.
