Congressman Krishnamoorthi Statement on the Anniversary of the Violence in Charlottesville
“Our Hard-Won National Commitment To Justice and Equality Allows No Compromise with Preachers of Hate”
SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement on the anniversary of the 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, which led to the murder of Heather Heyer, and the ongoing white supremacist rally in Washington, DC:
"A year ago in Charlottesville, our country saw the deadly face of hate in America when white supremacists laid bare the worst legacies of our nation and left a brave young woman murdered in their wake. In the struggle against hatred in our country, there can be no equivalency between those who would turn their backs on our nation's progress toward justice, and those who would defend the noble legacy that generations fought and died to build.
Our nation has always recognized that it was conceived in liberty, but it has taken the better part of two and half centuries to truly dedicate ourselves to the proposition that all of us are created equal. Our hard-won national commitment to justice and equality allows no compromise with preachers of hate, whether by its citizens, its Congress, or its president."
