Congressman Krishnamoorthi Speaks Out Against Implementation Of Postmaster General DeJoy’s Plan To Slow Mail Service And Raise Rates

October 1, 2021
Press Release

WASHINGTON – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement in response to the implementation of Postmaster General DeJoy’s unprecedented changes to USPS services:

“While we knew the implementation of service standard changes from Postmaster General DeJoy’s plan was coming, I’m disappointed that this day is here. Postmaster General DeJoy has proceeded with a plan that will cripple our postal system through slower deliveries, limited post office hours, and higher prices. This will harm the ability of small businesses to function and consumers to quickly receive mail, including essential medication. Aside from the serious ethics questions that Mr. DeJoy personally holds, while in this position, Mr. DeJoy has harmed the ability of the U.S. Postal Service to provide the services our citizens rely on. That’s why I’ve introduced the Delivering Envelopes Judiciously On-time Year-round Act (or DEJOY Act) to restore the quality of USPS service to the levels we knew before the Postmaster General’s disastrous policies began. We need to ensure the USPS has the resources it needs to succeed in its mission, and that is why House Democrats are advocating for the passage of the Postal Service Reform Act. The United States is currently seeing a Postmaster General abandoning the mission of the USPS, leaving behind those who depend on its services and the countless men and women who demonstrate their patriotism and dedication to public service through the USPS.”
