Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s Statement On The Combatting Financial Conflicts of Interest Act And Banning Members Of Congress From Trading Stocks
WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, sponsor of the Ban Conflicted Trading Act and leader of a bipartisan letter earlier this month calling for a vote on legislation to ban Members of Congress from trading individual stocks, issued the following statement:
"Leaving town without successfully passing a bill to ban individual stock trading is disappointing, to say the least. The Combatting Financial Conflicts of Interest Act does reflect principles our bipartisan coalition had advocated for; and while some technical tweaks may be necessary, it is a good bill that was assembled in good faith to permanently ban congressional stock trading and restore public trust in our democracy. However, the failure to even come close to a vote this week renders this idea as just another piece of paper. The path forward is uncertain, and I remain committed to doing everything I can to pass a strong bill to ban congressional stock trading, whether that means revising and pushing the Combatting Financial Conflicts of Interest Act, collaborating with the bipartisan negotiators in the Senate, or through another vehicle."
