July 8, 2022

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement on the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe:

"Today I join the people of Japan and countless others across the world in mourning the tragic loss of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the hands of an assassin. Over the course of his career in public service, Prime Minister Abe was a great friend to the United States and democracies around world as he worked to strengthen international alliances and maintain peace in the face of global challenges. His work to strengthen the economic and cultural bonds between the United States and Japan is evident in my own Congressional district, which includes the American headquarters of many Japanese companies creating American jobs through the strength of the partnership between our nations. I send my deepest condolences to Prime Minister Abe's wife, Akie, their family, Japanese Ambassador Koji Tomita, Consul-General Tajima Hiroshi of the Chicago Consulate, and all those mourning his loss around the world."
