Congressman Krishnamoorthi Reacts To Report That President Trump, Donald Trump Jr., And Other Trump Organization Officials Were Secretly Offered WikiLeaks Documents

December 8, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi released the following statement in response to reports that an email offered the President, his son, and other Trump Organization officials "a decryption key and website address for hacked WikiLeaks documents" in September 2016:

"It's disturbing that the President and his top advisors not only failed to inform the FBI that they were offered access to what was likely illegally obtained material, but then they repeatedly denied that they'd ever been offered it for over a year. There's no ambiguity on this fact: when your campaign is offered illegally obtained information, you go to the FBI. It's that simple.

This revelation is all the more disturbing because it was not a one-off event of contact between the Trump campaign and WikiLeaks. This email predated Donald Trump Jr.'s private correspondence with WikiLeaks during the fall of 2016 as it continued to release illegally-obtained information and encouraged President Trump to highlight some of their releases, as the President subsequently did.

As these deeply concerning revelations continue, it is vital that we continue to protect the integrity of Special Counsel's investigation, even as findings like this demonstrate the impact of Congressional investigators."
