Congressman Krishnamoorthi Receives Child Passenger Safety Award From Safe Kids Worldwide For Leading Efforts To Increase Booster Seat Safety
SCHAUMBURG, IL – Last week, Safe Kids Worldwide, a nonprofit dedicated to preventing childhood injuries, recognized Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi for his efforts to increase booster seat safety by presenting him with the Child Passenger Safety Award. As Chairman of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy, Congressman Krishnamoorthi has been Congress's top advocate for child car safety, leading the investigation which exposed potentially deadly safety failures in child booster seats which had been covered up by manufacturers.
"I want to thank Safe Kids Worldwide for honoring me with the Child Passenger Safety Award on Wednesday, and for allowing me to join them to highlight the need for increased booster seat safety," said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. "As a parent myself, I know how important keeping our kids safe is and that's especially true on the road at a time when motor vehicle accidents are one of the biggest risks to the health of children. That's why I was proud to lead the investigation which uncovered a number of preventable dangers to children from booster seats currently on the market, and why I authored the Booster Seat Safety Act. The Booster Seat Safety addresses these dangers by implementing the American Academy of Pediatrics safety guidelines and requiring the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to develop high standards for side impact testing. We need to do all we can to keep our children safe, and that includes when they're on the road."
