Congressman Krishnamoorthi On President Trump’s Potential Ethics Violations In Failing To Disclose Cohen Payment: “I Hope The Department Of Justice Reviews These Allegations With All Due Consideration”

May 16, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of the Oversight Committee issued the following statement in response to the news that the Office of Government Ethics referred President Trump's financial disclosure forms from 2017 and 2018 to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein in response to a complaint filed in March urging an investigation into whether Trump knowingly omitted a $100,000-plus payment from last year's forms:

"The Office of Government Ethics has made its views on President Trump's violations of ethics law known and I hope the Department of Justice reviews these allegations with all due consideration. The American people deserve to know the truth behind the President's financial entanglements and the ethical issues related to them. From the President's conflicting disclosures, to the opaque nature of his payment to Michael Cohen and the potential election law implications of the way Mr. Cohen used these funds, many serious questions remain and they must be answered."
