Congressman Krishnamoorthi Presents Jobs for America’s Graduates with $250,000 in Federal Funding to Expand the Organization’s Career and Technical Education Program with High School District 214
SCHAUMBURG – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi presented Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) with a check commemorating the $250,000 in federal community project funding the Congressman secured for its Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The funding, secured as part of December 2022’s government spending package, will go towards expanding the CTE program to include 9th and 10th graders, in addition to adding more resources for 11th and 12th graders, to whom the program is already available.
“Career and technical education (CTE) programs make all the difference in preparing our students for rewarding, middle-class careers that will help strengthen our entire economy,” said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. “I was proud to secure this funding to expand Jobs for America’s Graduates’ CTE programs in District 214 to include 9th and 10th graders, as well as the juniors and seniors already learning through skills-based education. Ensuring students have opportunities to pursue CTE education throughout high school opens the door to a range of opportunities for their educational and professional journeys ahead.”
Congressman Krishnamoorthi was joined for a check presentation ceremony by High School District 214 Superintendent Scott Rowe and former JAG students, as well as JAG President and CEO, Lauire Phelan, Program Manager Jim Lambert, Vice President of Operations Jan Ennis, and Specialist Sira Crusoe. During their press conference, all stressed the importance of investing in CTE programming and expressed hope that more funding for CTE would be passed by Congress. Today’s presentation follows Congressman Krishnamoorthi’s leadership on the frontlines of expanding access to CTE, dating back to his first term in Congress when he authored the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act, which reformed American skills-based education for the first time in over a dozen years while increasing national funding for CTE programs.
