Congressman Krishnamoorthi Lauds Inclusion of Career & Vocational Education in Appropriations Bill

September 27, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed legislation to fund the departments of Labor, Health, and Human Services, and Education. This includes $1.9 billion for career, technical, and adult education programs authorized by the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act and the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act. This will ensure that all students have the opportunity to continue to develop their skills in their post-secondary education and succeed in in-demand careers. The increase of $95 million for job training programs follows Congressman Krishnamoorthi's long push for career and technical education to be at the forefront of education reforms. Last month, the Congressman's bill, which was introduced with Congressman Glenn Thompson (R-PA), was signed into law, and will reauthorize and modernize our technical and vocational education programs while increasing the funding and ensuring that educators have a voice in how those programs are shaped.

"For almost two years, I have been working with my colleagues, constituents and advocates on how we can bring career and technical education into the conversation when it comes to our education system," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "After the successful passage and signing of H.R. 2353 last month, I am proud of my colleagues again for recognizing the importance of guaranteeing a quality secondary education for all Americans, whether it be a 4-year degree or gaining valuable skills from a vocational school. The more support we give to these effective programs, the better our economy and the more successful working families will be."
