Congressman Krishnamoorthi Joins Salt Creek School District 48 & State Rep. Conroy To Commemorate Funding The Congressman Secured For The District’s New After-School Program
The $80,000 In Federal Funding Congressman Krishnamoorthi Secured Will Go To The Creation Of The District’s “Viking After School Special @ The AMS Hub”
Villa Park, IL – This morning, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi joined Salt Creek School District 48 Superintendent Dr. Jake Chung, Albright Middle Principal Gerrie Aulisa, Albright Middle School students, and State Representative Deb Conroy for a grant funding award presentation in recognition of the $80,000 Congressman Krishnamoorthi secured through the bipartisan Community Funding Project program for Salt Creek District 48's new after-school program titled the "Viking After School Special @ The AMS Hub" in reference to the district's mascot. This grant aims to create an afterschool program for 5th – 8th-grade middle school students that will allow them to participate in a wide variety of activities once the typical school day has ended. The after-school programming will target cooperative learning, accelerated learning, incomplete learning from the Covid-19 pandemic, and social-emotional learning. Highlights of the grant include funding for STEAM activities, opportunities for students to participate in advanced book studies, a chess club, guitar lessons, math and literacy supports, and a homework center.
"Today is a great day for students, teachers, and families in my congressional district," said Congressman Krishnamoorthi. "In the FY2022 spending bill, I was able to secure $80,000 to enable Salt Creek School District 48 to establish and expand a robust afterschool program for students between 5th and 8th grade. As the father of three young children, including one middle schooler and one high schooler, I know firsthand how strong after-school programming can help our youth develop academically, intellectually, creatively, and athletically. I look forward to witnessing Salt Creek School District 48, and Albright Middle School, use these funds to benefit our students during perhaps their most critical years of development."
Albright Middle School Principal Gerrie Aulisa added, "We are very grateful to be receiving this funding for the expansion of our after-school programming. As part of this grant, we will be transforming our library into a student community center after school to better support our Vikings and their curiosity. Our focus is to create a culture of student involvement that extends beyond our school day. Salt Creek District 48 is thrilled that Congressman Krishnamoorthi supports this grant initiative because the students are the actual beneficiaries of this grant."
