Congressman Krishnamoorthi Issues Statement on Coronavirus in Illinois 8th District

January 30, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, public health officials in Illinois confirmed the first human-to-human transmission of the coronavirus. The individual affected is the spouse of the first confirmed travel-related case in Illinois. Both individuals are in stable condition and are receiving treatment in isolation at AMITA Health St. Alexius Medical Center Hoffman Estates in Illinois 8th district.

"My office is continuing to monitor the situation," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "Public health officials state that the danger to the general public is low with proper precautions, but it is very important to remain vigilant and to review all resources distributed by the IL Department of Public Health."

The coronavirus is transmitted through close personal contact with those infected. Symptoms include mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Residents are advised to follow everyday preventative actions like washing your hands with soap and water, covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and cleaning communal objects and surfaces. For more information please consult, among other resources, those provided by the Illinois Department of Health.
