Congressman Krishnamoorthi Introduces Resolution Calling For Doubling Federal Funding For Career And Technical Education

March 10, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (IL-08) introduced a resolution to double federal funding for career and technical education (CTE). This legislation continues the Congressman's extensive work on CTE policy, including authoring the bipartisan Strengthening Career And Technical Education For The 21st Century Act, which was signed into law in July 2018. The groundbreaking law reformed CTE programs for the first time in over a decade by requiring educators and business leaders to develop curricula together in order to prepare students for in-demand jobs. Today's resolution seeks to build on these reforms and investments by doubling funding for these programs at a time when millions of Americans continue to struggle with long-term unemployment.

"In an increasingly competitive world, American workers and our entire economy depend on our success in preparing our workforce to meet the demands of tomorrow," said Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi. "By doubling federal funding for career and technical education programs, our country can ensure that American workers have the chance to develop the in-demand skills they need to thrive in the 21st century economy."

"Our national CTE system relies on robust investments to support and improve equity, quality and access amid the continuing demand for CTE programs," said ACTE Executive Director LeAnn Curry. "ACTE is pleased to support Congressman Krishnamoorthi's resolution expressing the vital need for federal investments in CTE and Perkins V, our nation's foundational federal investment in CTE. As we see new federal investments in advanced manufacturing, infrastructure and more, we will need to build the capacity of the workforce to fill these in-demand jobs of the future in high-need industries. We've seen broad bipartisan support for CTE funding in Congress, and we urge Members to recognize this support for CTE funding and commit to the robust funding needed for Perkins V to ensure access to CTE for every learner. As our economy rapidly transforms, we know that CTE programs are prepared to respond to local, state and national workforce needs. ACTE would like to thank Congressman Krishnamoorthi for his recognition of this critical need and support of greater federal investments for CTE."
