Congressman Krishnamoorthi Calls For Illinois To Ban 3D-Printed Gun

August 8, 2018

SCHAUMBURG, IL – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued the following statement urging Illinois' legislature and the Governor to pass legislation banning 3D-printed guns:

"The development of 3D-printed firearms has created new loopholes through which criminals and terrorists will be able to gain access to guns without even the possibility of existing safeguards stopping them. We cannot wait for the next tragedy to demonstrate the stark danger of these untraceable weapons which are not even detectable by metal-screening machines. That's why I'm working with allies in Congress to ban 3-D printed guns as Attorney General Lisa Madigan and others explore legal action to eliminate the threat they pose. But despite the clear danger they pose, these unlicensed weapons, the Trump administration may continue to push for their legalization nationally. To help protect the people of Illinois, I'm urging our state legislature and governor to pass legislation to ban untraceable, 3D-printed guns before they bring new tragedy to our communities."
