Congressman Krishnamoorthi Hails Passage of Historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi voted for the passage of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. This historic legislation invests $550 billion in American infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and expanded broadband internet access, fueling job creation and economic growth for decades ahead.
"I was proud to vote for this infrastructure bill as a once-in-a-generation investment in our economy and our country," Congressman Krishnamoorthi said, "We want our country to possess world-beating, cutting-edge infrastructure. These new investments in roads, bridges, and high-speed internet will make that the case while preparing our economy and workforce for the century ahead."
Key funding provisions of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act include:
- $110 billion of new funds for roads, bridges, and major projects
- $89.9 billion in guaranteed funding for public transit over the next five years.
- $65 billion investment to expand broadband access while lowering prices through increased competition
- $65 billion toward electrical grid improvements to reduce outages, increase security, and facilitate the use of more clean energy sources through smart grid technology.
- $55 billion toward clean drinking water, including dedicated funding to replace lead service lines
- $50 billion toward preparing infrastructure for climate change and natural disasters including floods, wildfires, and droughts.
- $17 billion in port infrastructure and $25 billion in airports to address repair and maintenance backlogs and to reduce congestion and emissions near ports and airport.
- $39 billion of new investment to modernize transit, and improve accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities
- $7.5 billion to build infrastructure for electric vehicles, including charge systems, in order to reduce carbon emissions while supporting our domestic electric car industry.
